Center & Academy

Since 1995, the Connecticut Center for Child Development (CCCD) has been providing educational services to individuals with autism and related disorders (including but not limited to Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, High Functioning Autism, PDD, PDD-NOS) through our center based school program. We recently expanded to a second location just minutes down the road from our main campus. Both locations are state certified as special education providers for individuals aged 3-21.

The staffing ratio for each student, classroom and program location is determined by the individual needs. Program-wide, our staffing ratio is better than one instructor per child. This level of staffing enables programming to be tailored to the needs of each student.

All programming is individualized to capitalize upon each student’s strengths and to build skills in areas of need. The principles of Applied Behavior Analysis are employed to help students acquire new skills in the areas of communication, play and leisure, social skills, pre-academic and academic skills, daily living skills, safety skills, vocational skills and self help skills. Individualized programs and systems of reinforcement are used to reduce or eliminate inappropriate behaviors and to teach socially appropriate replacement behaviors.

Programming occurs across many environments such as school, home, community and work to promote the generalization of skills across these environments. Parent training also plays a key role promoting generalization of skills across environments.  Additionally, supported inclusion opportunities are provided on a case by case basis.

Our mission is to improve the lives of our students and their families by helping them to achieve the highest level of independence possible and enabling them to become active participants in their families and communities.

Parents, school district personnel, or other professionals interested learning more about the CCCD school program are invited to attend one of our regularly scheduled Visitor’s Days. Visitor’s Days are generally held once per month from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. A general overview of the CCCD programs is provided, followed by a tour of the school. Whenever possible, individual program tours for those visiting from out of state or School District Planning and Placement Teams can be scheduled upon request. Please contact Holly Sickles to schedule a visit.
